Dominant Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a historic £11m in earnings.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
